Funny Family Quirk...
The month of September tends to be a busy one. With getting back into the groove of school and birthdays galore. But it's also a fun reminder of a funny quirk in our family.

So far Kace has broken both of his bones in his left arm and now he has helped G-man break both bones in his right arm! I think it might be best if Kace isn't allowed around arms....:D!

"Well I guess you are just an unlucky chucky!" Daddy telling him no....guess it was the wrong joke at the wrong time because....
"I AM NOT CHUCKY! I AM KACE!!!"

Older pic, probably winter 2007-08.
After waking in the night from a bad dream my middle son was brought into our bed by my husband. He lay quietly in between us periodically asking if i was still awake. I would feel a sticky hand on the back of my head tangled in my hair, if you don't have boys stickiness is very common for no reason at all, and hear his deep voice "Ma? Ma?" As I would take his hand in answer to his query I suddenly was overwhelmed and humbled by the grace of God in my life that allows me this sweet and tender moment with my son. It was all the more humbling because of the hard day I had had with our oldest son being disobedient and my struggle with anger and frustration. I often forget that I am living under grace because I have been liberated by grace. My son reminded me how much God grants me mercy in the face of my sin. I was brought great joy and also conviction by His sweet reminder in the darkness of the night.

I forget so fast how quickly they all grow up! I see them just for a moment in their baby stage and then again I see them for a moment more as they grow up and then before your eyes they are bigger and bigger. More mature and conversable and slowly you forget those first moments they said "mama!" Then they are writing stories for you about yourself and interested in things much older than they had previously. You watch them begin to really react to you in their own ways and with their own personality and you forget those first few moments of intimacy you had when they were little, relating to you in their simple and babyish ways. I wish those memories wouldn't leave so quick, nor the babes in my arms....but then how could I give up the little boys they have become?

Reposting Memories: Circa 2007 Christmas
This was originally posted on our old family blog and in hopes of someday deleting that I thought it would be fun to ressurect some of those posts, especially the ones with photos of the kiddos!
I know the photos are REALLY lame, but they are old cellphone pics! It's still fun to see these!
It was so much fun this year with the boys helping to put up the tree, although the constant shuffle of ornaments is not something that I relish now that it is up it is still a blessed family time. We have had a lot of fun thinking of things and opening boxes from family! How can you not enjoy Christmas?
So here is the burning question-- Do you have Santa in your house or not? And why?
Just a little bit curious to see what other families do. Silas thinks santa is a snowman and Kace hasn't a concept. I don't want to cause further confusion, it is difficult enough to try and explain the trinity to a three year old, epecially at a time like this with all the mangers and baby Jesus'.
2011 Update: We don't "do" santa. Our little Kace man is very sensative to lies and because he is a stickler and we want to encourage him to trust and honor us as his parents and spiritual examples, we have chosen to teach our children that santa isn't real, but a lie people enjoy. That might sound harsh, but it is our take and not ment to be offensive. They know that Jesus is the reason. But I have to honestly admit we don't say "don't say xmas" or "happy holidays is evil!" We infact don't have a problem with saying "xmas" or "happy holidays" because they don't take christ out of christmas.

Daddy and His Big Boys
![]() |
Daddy and the three big boys in 2007.
For nearly a month our family has been having a new experience.....christian school! WoW! Who would have thought our fam would ever get a chance to enjoy the blessings of a private school experience, but we have because He is provisional! We would never have stopped homeschooling had we not been given a great opportunity and we are nothing but thankful for it! Will also began teaching Bible at this same school. It is a good chance for them all to spend time together and also learn! They are loving the time, although the early mornings are wearing on us all...but not our littlest family members.

Will is Teaching High School Bible and currently educating the kids on reading the word correctly. Rightly dividing isn't simply a natural thing, it is a learned concept and the kids are really taking to the new information. He will be starting a new bible study once a week with some of the boys and is excited to be involved in openly teaching the Word again.

Fall 2008.
Silas has begun 2nd grade. The experience has been one of discipline for him, especially coming from a homeschooling back ground where our school lasts only 3 to 4 hours max! So an all day thing, taking notes, and being organized without mom's help has been hard, but he's getting the knack. He and I are reading the Snow Queen together at night and He is doing a fab job, considering many of the words need to be sounded out!

April 2010.
Kace was made for a school environment! He just loves having a ton of busy work to do, directions to follow constantly, and a teacher to help out consistently. We have struggled a little in loving our family through out this transition for him. He has tended to love his school familt better than is real family and so we are working toward getting out priorities straight.

This summer, 2011. They are HUGE!
Momma, G-man, Pie Pie, and Lulu have been getting into a groove a bit slower than we had hoped. G-man has been working on writing his letters, Pie Pie is learning how NOT to pick on her older brother, and Lulu is getting better at sleeping consistently! We have seen how much we enjoy a little more quiet in the house, but the little kids get so excited when their "big" brothers get home! G-man and Dodio hole up in their room to play "camping trip" or cars and Pie D tags along while trying to be a momma at the same time! I have enjoyed only having three at home during the day, not because I like having a break from the big boys, but because the lil'uns have been able to have more one on one attention and in some ways it has brought out more uglies than one would expect, but it is good for Pie D and G-man to be able to be the trouble makers for a bit. I would hate for them to feel that they are without the need of a Savior and seeing their flaws helps me to guide them and know them better, also address them more effectively!
lil'bit! Do you want to kiss this face a million times too? Okay maybe thats just me! :D
